Christian Horner: "Max Verstappen has proven what an asset he is to the team"
Max Verstappen will drive for Red Bull Racing until at least 2023 and team boss Christian Horner believes that this news is a real boost to the team. Verstappen is one of the most talented drivers on the grid and will hope to win a world championship during this next stint at the team.
“It is fantastic news for the team to have extended our agreement with Max up to and including the 2023 season,” said Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner. “With the challenge of the 2021 regulation changes on the horizon, continuity in as many areas as possible is key.
“Max has proven what an asset he is to the team, he truly believes in the partnership we have forged with Honda, and we are delighted to have extended our relationship with him.”
The 22-year-old won three races in 2019 and will hope that he can get on the top step of the podium a few more times in 2020.
Despite Verstappen’s announcement coming so early in 2020 the driver line up post-2020 is still up in the air. Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel and Valtteri Bottas are all out of contract at the end of this year and it will be interesting to see who ends up where in 2021.
