Jan Lammers expects exciting fight between Verstappen and Hamilton in 2020
Jan Lammers has predicted that the 2020 F1 season will be an exciting encounter for the fans. He expects a fired-up Lewis Hamilton in the hunt for his seventh world championship with would equal Michael Schumacher's record. He also believes Max Verstappen will be desperate to stop that.
Verstappen has constantly been saying how he could beat Hamilton in equal machinery. Whether or not Aston Martin Red Bull Racing and Mercedes will be closer together is anyone's guess, but Lammers believes his fellow-Dutchman will be giving it all he has got to keep the current records intact.
"It will all be much closer to each other. And the stitches they drop will also be less extreme. So that the title fight will be more exciting than the last ten years, that could well be possible. Hamilton is extra driven to get that seventh title. And that while Max is perhaps the most driven to keep him from that. I think we are going to have a very nice season," Lammers told Motorsport.
For the first time in 35 years, Formula 1 will visit Zandvoort for a Dutch Grand Prix. So much has changed in the world of Formula 1 in recent years, and Lammers is quick to highlight the progressions made in the Dutch departments.
"Put us back three years (in time, ed.). If you had told someone then 'I predict that Max will win the Zandvoort Grand Prix in 2020 and that he will also become world champion in that year', then you are immediately taken away in a van and in a straitjacket," says Lammers.
