MP Motorsport have announced that the Japanese Nobuharu Matsushita will drive alongside the Brazilian Felipe Drugovich in the 2020 Formula 2 season. The Dutch racing team is gaining an experienced driver and a racer who is desperate for success.

Matsushita is no longer a young talent. At the age of 26, the Japanese racer will be one of the most experienced drivers on the F2 grid in 2020. He has been driving in Formula 2 and before that in GP2 for four seasons but also raced for half a season in the Super Formula in 2018.

Throughout his time he has proven to be a very fast driver winning six Formula 2 races and getting on the podium fourteen times. He has driven for top teams such as ART and Carlin and is now making one last attempt with MP Motorsport to reach Formula 1.

Matsushita was in demand and turned down a seat racing for Honda in the Super Formula to stay in Formula 2 he tells Motorsport.com.

“Honda offered me a seat in the Super Formula and Super GT for this year at the end of last year, but it is still my goal to get into Formula 1. It will be my fifth season in Formula 2, but I am ready to take part in every race to win and to fight for the championship.”

It was not an easy decision but Matsushita wants to try and get into Formula 1 one more time and success in Formula 2 this season could be his only way to do this.
