Albon: "Not frustrated" despite spin thwarting chance at flying laps
- Nicolás Quarles van Ufford
Although his spin around noon prevented him from doing any hot laps on the final day of testing, Aston Martin Red Bull Racing driver Alex Albon claimed it was "not frustrating" for him to not have pushed the RB16 to its limits.
Albon was on a flying lap at the Circuit de Catalunya before spinning out at turn 12, kicking up a lot of gravel and stones on his way back to the asphalt. Once he returned to the pitbox, he never came out of it again before the lunchtime break.
The pressure is on Albon this season after his half season with Red Bull last season. He will be expected to compete at the front on a regular basis and challenge for podiums and victories, in just his second season of F1.
When asked by GPBlog whether the end to his session frustrated him, Albon replied: “Not frustrating, no.
“We’ve done a lot of laps here already, so [missing] five laps isn’t such a big issue. I think we know more or less how the car is behaving. Obviously a spin is a spin, but otherwise it’s been quite smooth.”

This means the Thai's pre-season testing ended on a negative, but he had racked up plenty of miles over the six days, so will be heading to Australia in high spirits.
