Lewis Hamilton "is a headache for everyone"
Mark Webber says that Lewis Hamilton could cause anyone a headache as teammate, with the Brit looking to equal Michael Schumacher's record of seven F1 titles. Webber says he is one of the greats of F1 and says he almost feels sorry for Valtteri Bottas having to be his teammate, adding that nobody would be comfortable alongside Hamilton.
The now 35-year old has taken five of the last six titles and has comfortably outperformed Bottas since he joined in 2017, although the Finn did give him a little scare in the early part of the 2019 season, leading the championship after four races before Hamilton dominated the middle part of the season.
Webber had tough times himself with dominant teammates, watching Sebastian Vettel take four in a row whilst they were together at Red Bull.
Webber said in the Sydney Morning Herald: “Nothing against Valtteri, but Hamilton is one of the greats of the sport in the last 70 years. He is a headache for everyone. I don’t know who would be comfortable sitting beside him.
“He gave Fernando Alonso a bit of a touch up in Lewis’ first season alongside him in F1. Lewis is a ginormous, ginormous challenge for anyone. Valtteri is doing what he can, but Hamilton is a big problem for the opposition.
”He’s hungry and he’s still tenacious and he is reinventing himself, and that’s the extraordinary quality he has which is great to watch.”
