Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto has praised his driver Sebastian Vettel for his great leadership, with the German entering the final year of his deal while teammate Charles Leclerc is signed up until 2024.

Vettel is likely to stay on board at Ferrari beyond 2021, however, with Binotto already communicating the four-time champion is their first option to have alongside Leclerc in their line-up.

2019 hasn't been Vettel's best year, with just one win and two pole positions compared to Leclerc's two wins and seven pole positions. Still, Binotto trusts his veteran driver to bounce back as he reveals how important he is behind the scenes.

“I think he came with a lot of experience being world champion,” Binotto said on his as Vettel's press conference on Thursday.

“I think he is a great leader for the team. He is great with the engineers, with the team and with his teammate as well which is important as he is always trying to push us to our best.

“He is always doing the same as well and taking the steps to get himself forward and demanding what he needs from the team, which is a matter of the entire team making themselves better which is important.”
