Italian GP warns: "Australia scenario we can't afford"

The organizer of the Italian Grand Prix warns of an 'Australia scenario'. According to the Automobile Club d'Italia (ACI), we have to learn from the mistakes made last month, because the circuit of Monza, Formula 1 and Liberty Media cannot afford to repeat them.
"That would be a disaster," says Sticchi Damiani in conversation with La Gazzetta Dello Sport. The top man of the ACI says it was a big mistake to cancel the Australian Grand Prix at the last minute while the public was already present on the circuit. "We can't afford such a mistake. It was a blow to everyone, from Liberty Media to the teams and the local organizers".
Rule out risks
Damiani therefore argues that the Formula 1 season of 2020 should only start at the moment when it can be said with one hundred percent certainty that the Grand Prix can actually take place. "To start again now and then be forced to stop again would be a disaster".
The Grand Prix of Italy is still planned on September 9th, but because Monza is located in severely affected Lombardy, this is uncertain. As organizer the ACI emphasizes once again the importance of caution. "We have to be careful. We first need to know what is happening in the countries where the Grands Prix is held and what is happening in Italy and Great Britain, the countries where most of the staff is located", concludes the ACI President.
