Several racing classes will start up in a relatively short period of time, including Formula 1 and DTM. However, there will also be racing classes that will no longer have a season this year and the W Series is one of them. The organisation will let this know today by means of a statement on its website. The W Series will not start again until 2021.

Bigger season

The season may have been cancelled for this year, but next year the W Series hopes to return bigger. In the statement the organisation states that they already have plans to organise a bigger and better season with at least two races during Formula 1 weekends. This would be in Austin (United States) and Mexico City.

"We have taken this very difficult but ultimately unavoidable decision to end any uncertainty surrounding our 2020 plans, we will focus our energies clearly on 2021, when we will resume our on-track racing programme, bigger and better than ever before," said W Series CEO Catherine Bond Muir.

Until then, however, they won't sit still, as they will start the W Series Esports League on June 11th. Details will follow later and these races will undoubtedly be streamed live. Finally Ross Brawn responds to this news, saying he is disappointed and looking forward to 2021.

"W Series has had an incredible impact on the world of motorsport, and we were excited to have them join our schedule this year. It is a big disappointment for all of us that due to the difficulties presented by COVID-19 the events will not take place, but we are looking forward to some exciting racing in 2021 when W Series returns."
