The death of the black American, George Floyd, by a white policeman has set in motion an international movement against racism. Lewis Hamilton was the first in the Formula 1 world to react to this and made a connection with his sport, which according to him is still too dominated by white people.

Hamilton was able to count on a lot of support, also from a large part of the other F1 drivers. Although the link of racism with Formula 1 is not immediately seen by everyone, according to Ted Kravitz, F1 reporter for Sky Sports, it is important that Hamilton denounces this subject in this sport.

"He is absolutely right when he says that Formula 1 is a white dominated sport and always has been. I think his words and deeds have a very big impact. If F1 is really going to do something about diversity, his contribution will have been very important for that effort", said Kravitz for Sky Sports F1.

He gives as an example the recent statements of Ross Brawn, who said in a reaction to the words of Hamilton that will be looked at ways to have more people of colour working in the paddock.
