The FIA has published a new technical directive that will not allow Formula 1 teams to develop their own pit equipment from 30 September 2020. It is a new measure to further reduce costs in the pinnacle of motorsport.

That news will bring out the official website of the Formula 1 on Tuesday. In recent years the race stables have put a lot of time, energy and especially money into improving the pit equipment. In a little over three months, that will no longer be possible.

Formula 1 formations must provide the FIA with a full description of the pit stop equipment they use by 22 July. Until September 30th, unlimited changes can still be made. After September 30th only very minor changes are allowed. However, it must be approved by the International Motorsport Association.

Other option turned out not to be an option

Initially the plan was to have all teams use the same equipment, but all ten teams would have had to buy new equipment, which would have increased costs.
