Valtteri Bottas was the man who came closest to Lewis Hamilton in 2019, but in exactly the same car, the Finn was also way too short. In 2020, it will have to be different if he's aiming for the world title.

Which version will we get in 2020?

Bottas arrived in Australia in 2019 with renewed confidence. That self-confidence was rather damaged by a lot of bad luck and inferior performance in 2018, which forced him to reset as Bottas 2.0 for 2019. Now more than a year later, however, it is time for another new version of the Finn, because he is not yet at the level of Lewis.

''The unexpected time we've been given now has really only done me good. As a driver you don't often experience that you have so much time to focus on other things. Now I could improve myself, both physically and mentally. I was also able to drive a lot, because in here I could just go karting and racing in rally cars'', says Bottas in Sky Sports' Vodcast.

Bottas is in shape

''It's clear that we're going into a special season, as we're going to have a lot less races than planned. Every mistake costs a lot more this time than before. Now it's all about consistency and I've worked hard on that with my team. I've got some new tricks I can use to keep my driving as constant as possible.''

Bottas feels ready for the start in Austria. ''I Barcelona already felt that I've made steps in certain curves. As driving I am physically but also mentally at my peak. Hopefully I can turn that into results. I have a lot of self-confidence and will give everything to win'', concludes the Mercedes driver.
