This is why Verstappen is not testing for Red Bull Racing at Silverstone
- GPblog.com
Red Bull Racing will test Thursday afternoon at Silverstone to get used to the new corona measures in Formula 1. However, Max Verstappen will not be present, making him one of the few who will not be in action before the start of the F1 season.
After Mercedes, Racing Point, Ferrari, McLaren, Renault and AlphaTauri, Red Bull Racing is the last in line to do another test before the Formula 1 season gets off to a good start in Austria. Haas, Williams and Alfa Romeo will not test, but like the drivers of those teams, Verstappen will also not be in action.
Verstappen stays at home
The Dutchman indicated earlier that he didn't see such an advantage in testing before the season. The Dutchman already went over the circuit in other cars, but didn't see the advantage of a Mercedes test himself. Meanwhile all competitors of Verstappen have already been in an F1-car, but the Dutchman will only do that in Austria.
Because of the quarantine measures in England, the Dutchman will first have to go into quarantine before he could come into action at Silverstone. Alexander Albon lives in England and is therefore easier to take action. Longer quarantine was not an option for Verstappen, who prefers to stay at home and take action in Austria.
Verstappen already lagging behind?
That makes Verstappen the only driver of the top six who hasn't been in an F1 car before the first Grand Prix in Austria. The Dutchman himself clearly doesn't see it as a disadvantage, but the training sessions in Spielberg will show whether Verstappen has made the right choice here.
