Daniel Ricciardo leaves Renault at the end of 2020 to make the switch to McLaren. His successor was announced on Wednesday: Fernando Alonso. What does Ricciardo think of his return?
"I really like it because I didn't expect this at all. Of course there was a chance he could come back, but I wasn't so sure about that. It's great for the sport, because with Alonso returning to the sport and I'm looking forward to fighting with him'', Ricciardo said in the press conference in the presence of Speedweek.com.
Ricciardo doesn't give up spot
Ricciardo is happy to add an old driver, because with the 39-year-old Alonso in 2020 Ricciardo feels a lot less old among all the youngsters. Alonso doesn't have a place in Formula 1 at the moment and might want to test in a Renault during 2020. However, Ricciardo won't give up his place.
''No, Alonso doesn't need any help. If you look at what he has done in between, he doesn't need to practice. His last season in Formula 1 was also very strong. He doesn't need my help. I allow him to join the meetings, but I want to be in the car as much as possible'', the Australian said.
