At the moment the Formula 1 stewards are looking into the protest that Renault has made against Racing Point's 2020 car. The car from the British race stable is almost an exact copy of the car with which Mercedes became champion last season. However, Red Bull Racing has its doubts about the legality.

Racing Point has looked very closely at how the parts of the champion car of Mercedes are built. They tried to imitate this as much as possible and that seems to pay off now. Whether 'copying' with or without the help of Mercedes is not quite clear yet.

Marko wants punishment

Helmut Marko: "If Racing Point and Mercedes get away with their little game, we could see up to eight Mercedes, six Ferrari, four Red Bull and two Renault on the starting grid next year", Red Bull's advisor tells Sport1. The 77-year-old Austrian is afraid that top teams will then work closely with their customer teams. Mercedes could then do the same with McLaren and Williams in 2021.

It is still unclear what role Mercedes will play in the story, but according to a Formula 1 team boss who prefers to remain anonymous, the FIA will do everything possible to avoid a big scandal. He compares the case of Racing Point with that of the illegal Ferrari engine of 2019.

Does Racing Point only need to change brake vents?

"The FIA will find a compromise. Racing Point will probably only have to change the brake vents, which Renault denounced in Spielberg as a banned copy of the 2019 Silver Arrow. In the case of Ferrari, the FIA also agreed to a lazy compromise in order not to endanger Formula 1 as a whole."
