At Mercedes, Toto Wolff is satisfied with the current drivers, but the team boss will still keep an eye on George Russell. However, according to the Austrian, he has to respect the contract of the Brit at Williams.

At Mercedes, no driver has a contract for 2021, but still it is expected that the team will continue with Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton. The only question is whether George Russell will be able to make the transition to the top team in 2022.

"We are very happy with our current drivers. Valtteri and Lewis get along very well and they behave well, it's an important dynamic within the team," Toto Wolff told Italian Motorsport.com.

No guaranteed seat

However, the Austrian makes no secret of the fact that in the coming years he also wants to see George Russell in the chair. "George has a three-year contract with Williams, which will expire at the end of the year. Claire has made it clear that she sees George as an important aspect for the team and we have to respect the contract".

"Williams has given George the opportunity to get into Formula 1 and that's why the decision lies with them. And even if George was a free driver, he wouldn't be guaranteed a spot at Mercedes. In the long run he is an important driver for us, but not for 2021", concludes the team boss.
