Mercedes remains wary of Red Bull: "World Championship lead can go"
Toto Wolff is happy with the third consecutive victory for Mercedes, but the Austrian team boss is disappointed that Max Verstappen prevented a new one-two at the Hungarian Grand Prix. The CEO also praises Red Bull Racing in the interview for repairing the Verstappen car so quickly.
Valtteri Bottas had a poor start. "I think bittersweet. I think that was so close to a false start and then it would have been bitter, bitter. So, I think it was a success that we managed to recover and finish 1 and 3 is a great result for the team," Wolff told Sky Sports.
In any case, what is certain is that the W11 from Mercedes is an extremely good car. "The car and its engine is a bit of a beast. Just what we needed. The drivers like it. It has good driveability. A lot of power and tons of downforce," Wolff added.
Mercedes on Red Bull
Mercedes don't want to think about a world championship yet. Wolff emphasizes that Red Bull can rise to great heights. "To get that car to race, Niki Lauda would've taken off his cap before. That was really great work," said the team boss, who sees enough potential in the RB16.
"I don't think it's a bad race car either. The car certainly doesn't always perform in the right window, but the car was good today. They're a worthy opponent. The gap isn't that big in the championship either. the race is not finished, the gap is gone. We have to keep pushing."
