Ocon wants to succeed Prost: "He has the key to success"

Esteban Ocon expects a lot from the coming years in the Renault. He expects that the team will eventually be able to fight for the top prizes again and he thinks he could succeed Alain Prost as French world champion. Prost gives Ocon a lot of advice, which Ocon says helps him a lot.
Year from the sideline
After two and a half seasons in Formula 1, Ocon had to watch from the sidelines in 2019. "Of course it was not great, not easy to watch. Seeing the guys I raced with at the top, racing in great cars, having good results... Of course it works a bit on your mind and you are never sure if you are going to be coming back at some point, because there is nothing certain in Formula 1", he says in a conversation with Crash.net.
Competing for the top prizes
Ocon hopes to fight for victories from 2022, together with his new teammate Fernando Alonso. "That’s clearly one of the targets. The change of the regulations is going to be impressive and everyone will try to get the best car possible to fight for the top, and hopefully Renault will do that as well."
If Ocon gets a good car, he's sure he can fight for the prizes. He wants to be the second French world champion after Prost. "Yes I believe I can do it, definitely. The good thing is I often have Alain on the phone, he’s giving me tips. Alain has the key of success and his words and advice are so important. I definitely want to follow his path, and how he works and everything he gives me is a boost to my career and to my way of working."
