Valtteri Bottas has extended his contract with Mercedes. The Finn signed his first contract for the team in 2017 and will have to show his value to the team again in a year's time.

In 2017 Bottas came to Mercedes as a replacement for the suddenly departed Nico Rosberg. The Finn impressed in his first season as Lewis Hamilton's right hand, but also had lesser moments. Mercedes and Toto Wolff, however, always kept confidence in the Finn, who managed to scrape together quite a few victories in recent years.

Bottas preys on world title

''As you've seen, I've signed a new contract for one season with Mercedes and I'm very proud of that. I want to thank the team for the trust they have in me and I want to thank you for your support," says Bottas in a video of Mercedes to his fans and followers.

''This weekend it's time to kick some ass again. I've always wanted to be world champion and that will remain my goal. You can do that at Mercedes and I am very happy for this opportunity. Thank you'', the driver of Mercedes concludes the video.
