Nico Hulkenberg is currently in talks with two teams in Formula 1 about a seat for next season. The Dutch-speaking German driver does, however, let it be known that this doesn't have to mean anything and that it may take some time before there is more clarity.

"I'm glad I scored points for the team. Seventh place isn't so bad, especially if you haven't driven for so long", Hulkenberg starts in the interview with Auto, Motor und Sport.

Did Hulkenberg beat his teammate this weekend?

Although Hulkenberg finished one place lower than Lance Stroll in the race, he was actually leading the race all weekend. The German doesn't dare to say that he won his teammate's internal game at Silverstone. "You have to debate that, but it's not that important to me. I just gave everything and always tried to get the maximum out of myself and the chances that were there. This weekend I've done much better than last time," he explains.

Sergio Perez's replacement had to go in for fresh rubber just before the finish flag fell. It meant his third pit stop and Hulkenberg lost a lot of ground. According to the 32-year-old driver, he hasn't really been able to turn on at any point. When Hulkenberg is asked how much he drove below the limit, he answers: "About ninety percent".

Hulkenberg is in conversation

Because of his good performance at the British Grand Prix Hulkenberg may have aroused even more interest from some teams. Possibly he will have a fixed seat in Formula 1 again in 2021. Or his chances have improved after last weekend? "It would be an exaggeration if I had more hope. I've been talking to two teams for a while now. I don't know if anything has changed this weekend. I don't think so. The people there know me and don't allow themselves to be influenced by a race weekend. There is a chance, but it will take a while," he concludes.
