That you're doing better than your competitors is what most sports are all about. So it is in Formula 1. Yet Dr. Helmut Marko doesn't take much pleasure in the ailing Ferrari. "I'm certainly not happy about this", said the Red Bull advisor in conversation with MotorsportMagazin.com.

Marko hopes that the Italian team will be able to climb out of this valley soon. "It's painful to see them struggle to reach Q2. Ferrari is a legendary brand and important for the sport." He also cites the special bonus for Ferrari within the concorde agreement. "It's certainly justified. The presence of Ferrari has a kind of magical appeal for sponsors. Luckily, it won't disappear so quickly, even though the team isn't so successful right now."

But Marko also remains critical of Ferrari and the FIA. "We know that we are not happy with the FIA's statement about the Ferrari engine. I think this is true for the whole sports world. The development of the engine has been pursued in a one-sided way, but that doesn't explain why they are so weak with the chassis. Both factors contribute to not being competitive and having to fight in midfield."

Pity on Vettel?

For his old pupil Sebastian Vettel, it is not easy now at Ferrari. "Sebastian is a four-time world champion, there aren't many of them. He must now determine his direction for the future, but the situation is clearly difficult.“
