Christian Horner can empathise very well with Max Verstappen and his frustration after his second consecutive failure in Formula 1. The team boss of Red Bull Racing states that the 22-year-old Dutchman had a lot of confidence they would find positives in the final classification. Verstappen himself is already looking to 2021 and 2022. The chances for a World Championship title this year are gone.

"He could not show what he was capable of after his promising qualifying. He had a lot of confidence before the race", Horner is quoted by NU.nl. The 46-year-old Brit understands the frustrations of the nine-time Grand Prix winner.

Verstappen looks beyond 2020

Verstappen himself also knows that his chances of winning a World Championship title have definitely been lost, if this wasn't yet the case at Mugello before the weekend. The new regulations have been postponed until 2022 due to the coronavirus, so it will be a challenge for the men of Red Bull in the coming year.

The RB16 will be very similar to the RB17 of 2021. The teams have been given little room by the FIA to come up with adjustments. "I hope we get closer to Mercedes next year, but I don't think we will beat them. Because of corona you can't change so much about the car. But I hope that in 2022, with the new regulations, there will be a new opportunity for us", said Verstappen in conversation with the Austrian television channel ORF.
