Horner doubts the FIA's solution: 'Perhaps we could have done more'

Formula 1 cars will not change much in 2021 compared to current cars, but with the mandatory adjustments to the floor, something will have to change. Following Christian Horner, however, there is a bigger problem with the tyres.
In Silverstone, things went wrong with the tyres in 2020. Not for the first time, Pirelli tyres gave the ghost because the tyre cannot cope with the pressure of today's cars. Because Pirelli only planned a new tyre for 2022, something had to be done about the cars of 2021, which would otherwise be far too fast. The floor is being simplified, but according to Horner this is not enough.
Has the FIA misjudged this?
''It's a tricky one, but I think all teams know how to find more downforce than they have to hand in. So maybe we could have done more to solve the problem with the tyres, but I also understand that these extra solutions also involve extra costs'', says Horner to Autosport.com.
Franz Tost also expects the F1 teams to win back the lost downforce in 2021. ''We will of course lose a lot of downforce, but I wouldn't be surprised if we are back on the same level in 2021," says AlphaTauri's team boss. Frederic Vasseur does think it will have a lot of influence and thinks the FIA has made the right choice.
