Tost: 'Gasly is not far away from Verstappen and Leclerc'

Pierre Gasly came from Toro Rosso to Red Bull Racing, but it failed. After he was put back to that same team that now comes out as AlphaTauri, the Frenchman has rejoined. After his victory at Monza, his self-confidence is back and team boss Franz Tost believes Gasly is cut from the same stone as Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc.
Back to Red Bull
Since his victory at Monza, a possible return of Gasly to Red Bull Racing has been the talk of the day for a long time. For the time being it hasn't, because the team is clinging on to Alexander Albon. Still, Tost sees potential in his driver, because in conversation with AvD Motorsport Magazine on Sport 1 he praises Gasly.
"He has the potential to become a champion. I expect that Pierre - if he continues to develop in this way - will be one of the big stars of the future." The general perception is that Verstappen and/or Leclerc are the champions of the future, "but Pierre is not far away."
In other words, Gasly's qualities are quite close to those of Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc, and with the right development the Frenchman can easily compete against them on the track. However, for the time being Gasly will continue to drive at AlphaTauri and that car will not be able to fight with the head.
Tost acknowledges: "It is hard to say how well our car will do, the track is totally different from the last few weeks. With the AT01 we are at least heading in the right direction and we have developed a consistent approach in recent weeks. Now we have to make sure that we stay away from problems."
There is no lack of motivation at AlphaTauri, because Gasly's victory helped a lot. Tost: "It was a strong moment that came about thanks to everyone's hard work. I think it gave everyone a huge boost".
