Tickets for the Eifel Grand Prix at the Nürburgring went on sale today. This is the first round of 5,000 tickets. The influx of fans in the ticketshop was so great that the website was overloaded.
There are few races where the public can attend this year, and if possible the demand for tickets is enormous. For the Eifel Grand Prix a total of 20,000 tickets will be available to the public. The first 5,000 tickets were sold out in two hours. The servers even collapsed under the enormous crowds.
"We were literally overwhelmed," excuses circuit director Mirco Markfort at Auto, Motor und Sport. "This is of course good news for us and for Formula 1, but it also shows that we need to make some improvements in terms of ticket service." Markfort promises to increase server capacity for the second round of sales.
This is the first time since 2013 that a Formula 1 race will be held at the Nürburgring. A total of 40 Grand Prixs were held here. The final winner is Sebastian Vettel for Red Bull Racing in 2013. Michael Schumacher has the most victories to his name. He has won the race no less than five times.
