Team boss Racing Point: "He has fully earned his place next to Vettel"
- GPblog.com
Lance Stroll is doing well at Racing Point for the time being, thanks to the fact that his father is the owner of the team. That connection is soon made, but that's not entirely justified. After all, the Canadian also shows his skills on the track and Racing Point team boss Otmar Szafnauer is proud of that. In fact, his performance confirms that his seat is right for 2021.
Difference in points
In 2019 there was quite a difference in points between Lance Stroll and Sergio Perez at the end of the ride. For example, Stroll managed to score 21 points and the Mexican no less than 52 points. This year, however, Stroll is ahead of his teammate, but this is partly due to the fact that Perez was unable to compete two Grands Prix due to a corona infection.
With a podium at Monza, Stroll was doing very well and in Mugello, too, he was doing well until a blowout caused a crash. His performance - which is relatively stable - speaks for itself and he is on the team for the time being. That's nice for him and Szafnauer has expressed his confidence in him.
There is more to get out of him
"The main thing is that there’s more to come from Lance, and the team too. It’s been a really strong season for Lance – his best so far with some very mature performances in qualifying and the races. After the Monza podium, he was sitting fourth in the championship with just the Mercedes drivers and [Max] Verstappen ahead."
"He’s in the ascendancy and clearly demonstrating his talent, and why he is fully deserving of his place alongside Sebastian next year," said the Racing Point team boss at Motorsportweek.com. Vettel will take Perez's place next year, as he won't continue his career at Ferrari. What Perez will do is still unclear at this time.
