FP2 results - Mercedes on top once again...
The second free practice session for the Russian Grand Prix is over and although the results don't say it all, it does give a picture of what the rest of the weekend will look like. It will come as no surprise that Mercedes will be at the front.
They dominated the second free practice with impressive times on the soft tyre. Behind them was again Daniel Ricciardo who showed that Renault's revival in Italy is not a one-off. He does have formidable competition from the McLaren and Racing Point drivers.
Ferrari and Williams are doing reasonably well
The good results for those teams also mean that there will be casualties elsewhere. Red Bull Racing seems to be losing out this weekend. Verstappen was only just ahead of Charles Leclerc's Ferrari in seventh place. Alexander Albon even has to settle for 12th place.
The fact that a Mercedes engine helps a lot on this circuit is proven by Williams drivers. Nicholas Latifi was even faster than George Russell, having recovered from his crash this morning.
