Verstappen says there is more to come from Red Bull in Russia
Max Verstappen had a difficult Friday at the Sochi circuit. Especially during the second free practice the RB16 didn't seem to be in optimal shape. The driver of Red Bull Racing spun once and on the soft tyre he couldn't manage more than seventh place.
"I think in general we know that this track is not the best for us," says Verstappen to Sky Sports after the first two practice sessions of the weekend. Seventh place in the afternoon session doesn't immediately worry the Dutchman. "We could have done better there, but we are testing some things. Some things work, other changes didn't work out as well".
Red Bull has fierce competition from Renault, McLaren and also Racing Point. About his chances in qualifying the Dutchman says: "It will be difficult to seize third place. In the longruns we seem to be more competitive. In any case, we still have plenty of work to do."
Verstappen will pay special attention to Daniel Ricciardo and Esteban Ocon on Saturday afternoon. "Renault have been very competitive and you never know who else. We need to make the right trade-off with downforce levels but keep the car stable and thenI am quite confident that quali will be tight, but we can be in the fight," he concluded.
