Mick Schumacher is heading for a Formula 2 title. Prema's driver won the main race in Russia and managed to increase the gap to his closest challenger, Callum Ilott with a good number of points. Red Bull-junior Yuki Tsunoda finished second, while Ilott completed the podium.

Pole-sitter Tsunoda praised competitor Schumacher: "Today Mick was perfect, he just drove better! On my side, the pace wasn't great, but I'm happy to maximise the points I could get."

Schumacher drove a great race and managed to overtake Tsunoda beautifully on Saturday morning. The German driver immediately created a big gap, so his victory was no longer in danger. Ilott finished third. The difference with Luca Ghiotto at the finish was just over two-hundredths of a second.

Tsunoda can dream of F1 transfer

The difference with another sprint race in Sochi and a full weekend in Bahrain has increased to eighteen points. Thanks to his second place, Tsunoda climbs up to a shared third place in the intermediate standings. The difference with Schumacher seems too big with 41 points. However, for the Japanese talent it is especially important that he finishes in the top-four of the championship, as that gives him a super license. He needs that piece of paper in order to replace Daniil Kvyat at AlphaTauri next year.
