Christian Horner discussed Alexander Albon's difficult Sunday in the Russian Grand Prix. The Red Bull Racing team boss explains why Albon is less successful at the Sochi circuit. According to Horner, there is work to be done for the 24-year-old driver.

"It was a tough afternoon for Alex," Horner said in the Red Bull review. "He lost ground on the opening lap but with the Safety Car we effectively had a free stop, only conceding one place as we changed Alex from the soft tyre to the hard which he was more comfortable on. He was then able to make progress through the field with some great overtaking moves."

Albon's weaknesses become visible

Albon's performance is very unstable. Where there was a podium place in Mugello scored by the British Thai, in Sochi it was tenth place in qualifying and race. "I think that Alex is particularly sensitive to some characteristics on the car. They're [highlighted] on this kind of track with the short corners and big braking zones," Horner explains.

In two weeks time, the Formula 1 circus will be heading to the Nurburgring in Germany. It is important that Max Verstappen's teammate comes out stronger. "There's plenty to look at for him. He recovered reasonably well in the second-half of the race, but it's obviously been a tough weekend for him. It's a shame after the podium two weeks ago that this one has been one of the hardest of the year for him," said the 46-year-old Brit.
