Formula 1 is satisfied: 'The safety protocols work'
- GPblog.com
Since the start of the Formula 1 season in July, various measures have been in place to contain any chance of the coronavirus in the paddock. So far, the measures appear to be very successful, as the number of infections has remained very minimal. This brings the organization to the conclusion that the safety protocols work.
Seven infections detected
In the period from the 18th to 24th of September, 3,256 tests were conducted and seven people tested positive among the drivers, teams and associated personnel. Over the entire time period up to the date mentioned, nine positive cases were found. In comparison, the number of infections in Formula 1 is therefore very low.
"Formula One and the FIA safety protocols are working very effectively including testing, tracing and other safety measures to ensure social distancing," said a Formula 1 representative to Reuters. Positive cases have also been taken into account, as they would show up anyway.
"We have always said that there will be positive cases and we have shown that when they occur we can deal with the situation safely without disruption to an event." The tests are very important here, because every person will only be allowed access to the paddock when a negative result returns.
Of the seven people who tested positive in the last period, six were auxiliary personnel, including cleaners. In addition, Will Buxton also tested positive, so this British TV presenter did not travel to Russia.
