It had been hanging in the air for a while, but it's official now. Mick Schumacher will make his debut at the Eifel Grand Prix for the first time in a Formula 1 car, the Alfa Romeo's C39. His debut will be in free practice on Friday, according to a press release from Ferrari. In addition to Schumacher, Callum Ilott will also be in action; he will be in the Haas VF-20 on Friday.
First meters will be made tomorrow
So for Schumacher and Ilott the debut comes soon, Robert Shwartzman - also a Ferrari Driver Academy 'student' - gets his chance later in the year. He will make his debut in a Formula 1 car during free practice in Abu Dhabi, but whether it will be with Haas or Alfa Romeo is not clear.
In order to prepare the drivers for their upcoming debut, the three will test at the Fiorano circuit on Wednesday September 30th. They will all get into the SF71H, the car that Ferrari used in 2018.
The goal of tomorrow's test is to give the drivers the best possible preparation for their Formula 1 debut. Ferrari also says that their excellent performance in the lower classes has made them deserve this opportunity.
