Wolff is happy with Domenicali: "F1 really is his top priority"

Stefano Domenicali will become the CEO of Formula 1 on 1 January 2021. He will replace Chase Carey, who will take a step back. After Domenicali's announcement, there were already many rumours about which other candidates Liberty Media approached to take on the big task. So was Toto Wolff.
However, the team boss of Mercedes gave up the task as CEO and thinks that the choice for Domenicali was a good one. "I certainly think it's a good move from Liberty", explains Wolff at the F1 Nation podcast. The Austrian knows Domenicali from the time when Wolff was only just involved in Formula 1 and since then Wolff has had a lot of contact with Domenicali.
Finding the right balance in F1
"I certainly still have a lot of contact with him now. I really just entered the sport when he was about to leave. Our first real meeting was actually only in Monaco", Wolff looks back. The reason the two met was not to have a nice chat. "He had made a protest against us. Fortunately, we are laughing about that now."
Wolff thinks that Domenicali fits better in the role of CEO than he does himself. "He knows a lot about sport, that's why sport is a top priority for him. He's a purist, but he also knows that he has to keep the public and the target group involved. Many find it difficult to find a good balance in this, but I think he can find that balance perfectly", concludes Wolff.
