While it's already clear which teams will be number one and two in the constructors classification, it's going to be exciting in the midfield. Andreas Seidl sees a clear favorite in that battle.
After ten races in the current Formula 1 season, we are already over half the season. In the constructors' standings, Mercedes is clearly in the lead with 366 points, while Red Bull Racing looks to be taking second place with 192 points at the moment. Behind that, it will however be exciting in the battle for third place, with McLaren, Racing Point and Renault at 106, 104 and 99 points respectively.
Despite the slight lead, Andreas Seidl doesn't think McLaren is the favorite in the battle for midfield. "I think based on the pure potential of the car, the Racing Point is comparable to how that car has performed on average since the Barcelona test. It's clearly the fastest car in the fight," the team boss told Auto, Motor und Sport.
Always in battle with Renault
In addition, the French team has been catching up to McLaren. "Renault has made a good step forward since Spa. At the same time, we were always in an exciting fight with them in races like Monza. We were in front of them, or in the mix, in qualifying sessions".
"They've taken a good step and it's up to us to make sure we're making progress with our own car. That way we can take the next step in regards to pace and keep the fight alive," concluded Seidl. So according to the team boss, it will be important to analyze the performance in Sochi, where McLaren couldn't score any points.
