BREAKING: Honda will leave Formula 1 after 2021!
- Sebastiaan Bakker
Breaking news from Formula 1. Honda will leave Formula 1 at the end of the 2021 season, leaving Red Bull Racing without an engine supplier.
Honda will leave as engine suppliers in Formula 1 at the end of the 2021 season. The Japanese manufacturer made a return to the sport with McLaren in 2015 and went through a tough period. With Toro Rosso, the brand revived in 2018 and was even able to supply an engine to Red Bull Racing in 2019.
No engine in 2022 for Red Bull Racing?
This collaboration was already fruitful in 2019. The Honda engine was very reliable and was partly responsible for Max Verstappen's three victories. The Dutchman finished third in the world championship and hoped to win the world title in 2020.
However, that hope was dashed after three failures in the first ten races. Where Verstappen had hardly any problems with his Honda engine in 2019, this wasn't the case in 2020. The title challenge is back on hold, but a victory with AlphaTauri at Monza was still a highlight for the Japanse engine makers. The question now is what Red Bull will do in 2022?
Following the decision by @HondaRacingF1 to withdraw from #F1 after the 2021 season, we would like to thank them for their exceptional efforts as a power unit supplier and look forward to continued success for the remainder of 2020 and 2021.
