Sebastian Vettel will be driving for the legendary Aston Martin brand in 2021, returning to Formula 1 as a replacement for Racing Point. Vettel points to Lawrence Stroll as the man who convinced him to come to the team.

Why Aston Martin?

Vettel has to leave Ferrari at the end of 2020 and so the four-time world champion will be without a seat for 2021. It took a while, but after long negotiations Vettel remains in Formula 1. When asked about the person who finally convinced him to go to Aston Martin, he points to Lawrence Stroll.

''There were many factors that played a role, but the fact that the team is growing and showing a lot in racing was important. Most important, however, was the attitude and determination to make something of it together. That sounded like a great project that I want to be a part of'', says Vettel in the podcast Beyond the Grid.

Vettel has no regrets

Vettel is 'not finished with Formula 1 yet'. ''I love racing and look forward to continuing to do so. Aston Martin will be very different from Ferrari and so a lot of things will happen for the first time. It's an impressive adventure for the whole team and I hope I can do my bit with my performance in the car'.

Although Vettel has not achieved his goals at Ferrari of becoming world champion, he doesn't look back too badly on his period in the red. ''I have no regrets about the last few years. I have learned a lot at Ferrari. It is a different team with a different culture and I have made a lot of friends there. Ferrari is a special team in different ways'', concludes Vettel.
