Last week it was announced that Red Bull Racing has to look for a new engine supplier for 2022. After 2021 Honda will stop working in Formula 1. This means that there are some uncertainties at Red Bull, because it is not yet clear whose engine will be in Max Verstappen's car in 2022.

Honda's imminent exit in F1 is another concern for Red Bull on top of the concerns they already have. They had expected that 2020 would be the year that Verstappen was able to fight with Mercedes for the world title, but that did not happen either, because Mercedes turned out to be old-fashioned dominant again. The question is whether Verstappen, because of all the uncertainties at Red Bull, is secretly looking at a seat at Mercedes for 2022.

Verstappen wants a dominant car

According to AS.com this is not the case, although Mercedes is attractive. "In 2022 the cars will be completely new because of the changing rules, which may lead to a more even field, or perhaps a change in the ranking. Mercedes is an option and Hamilton won't stay there forever, but the pandemic could throw a spanner in the works on long-term plans," explains F1 journalist Jesus Balseiro.

So it could be a risky move if Verstappen decides to leave Red Bull after 2021. However, Balseiro thinks that Verstappen has other plans. "If we look at Verstappen, he has put all his confidence in Red Bull, probably also because there is still a lot of uncertainty after 2021". Verstappen himself wants to be in the fastest car. "I want to win races, but the current options are very limited. I want a dominant car and I think Red Bull can give it to me", Verstappen concludes with the Spanish medium.
