Ricciardo shares his experience with the Nordschleife: 'I almost crashed there'
- GPblog.com
The racetrack that will be raced this weekend is, in reality, only a fraction of the total circuit. The entire Nürburgring is the longest circuit in the world, surrounded by nothing but forests. And it is therefore called the Green Hell and Daniel Ricciardo has reflected on his experiences of the track.
A round on the Nordschleife
The long circuit is quite a challenge, as YouTube is full of amateurs driving their cars into the crash barriers. It can also be quite a challenge for professionals, and the Renault driver has experienced that, albeit quite a while back. The smiling Australian shared an anecdote from 2008 during the press conference in Germany today.
"I drove it in my own car at the time, which was a Fiat Punto," Ricciardo said with a smile hidden behind his face mask. "And believe it or not I still went off the track in the Fiat," he said. "There was one part of the track I remember it was a little bit blind left uphill, in the corner really tightened."
"I was not prepared so I understeered off and went over the curb and cut across the grass. Fortunately I stayed out of the barriers, but that was my last experience"
