On Friday evening the FIA announced that four drivers will have new gearboxes for the Eifel Grand Prix. They are Alexander Albon, Daniil Kvyat, Carlos Sainz and Nicholas Latifi. The four drivers will not have to face a grid penalty this weekend.

Kvyat is allowed to have a new gearbox in his AlphaTauri car because he drove six Grands Prix with his previous gearbox. The regulations of the F1 state that a 'free' change is allowed after this number.

Sainz gets a box change because he did not finish during the previous Grand Prix in Russia.

For Albon and Latifi the following reason applies: "These drivers had to replace their previous gearbox during the last Event for a spare gearbox and this was before the six consecutive Events expired. Therefore they may use a new gearbox at the Event and the six consecutive Events will start here."
