Hulkenberg to Haas? 'He had to be at the circuit because of media obligations'
- GPblog.com
Nico Hulkenberg has just arrived at the Nürburgring to replace Lance Stroll who isn't fit to get into the car. There's suggestions that the German was coming anyway because he has media obligations. Could this mean that he is joining Haas?
He left Renault in 2019 and after that he was unable to find a new team. Nevertheless, he remained fairly active in the sport. This year he replaced Sergio Perez during two races, because the Mexican had tested positive for the coronavirus. Chances are that he will have to compete for Racing Point this weekend as well: Stroll is not 100% fit and may need to be replaced for qualifying.
Haas has room
Rumours about Hulkenberg have been going around for some time now. He is a very talented driver and several teams are said to be charmed by his skills, Haas and Alfa Romeo for example. Now that the latter team have most likely captured their two drivers for next year (Kimi Raikkonen and Mick Schumacher), only Haas remains.
The American team haven't fixed any drivers for 2021 yet, and team boss Guenther Steiner said earlier that he advises his drivers to talk to other teams as well. In addition, Hulkenberg had to be present at the Nürburgring today for a media event, which may indicate an announcement at Haas.
