Christian Horner is satisfied with Max Verstappen's second placed finish at the Nurburgring. The head of Red Bull Racing states that the gap to Mercedes is narrowing and that is 'encouraging'.

"We were a lot closer," says Horner to Sky Sports after the Eifel Grand Prix. The Red Bull team boss highlights that Hamilton and Verstappen had a lead of almost a minute at one point during the race. "I think we have been more competitive this weekend, particularly in Sector 1 we were good all weekend. Sector 3 was our weakest sector in comparison but I think generally it has been a strong weekend for us. I think we have made progress so that's definitely encouraging."

Reason for Albon's retirement

According to Horner, Albon's breakdown was due to a stone in the radiator. "We had no option but to retire that car or we would've lost the power unit. He was coming through the field very well. He would've been around that Daniel and Sergio battle at the end of the race, so it's unlucky for him."
