'Tense winter for Russell on the way, driver may lose his seat'
- GPblog.com
Sergio Perez is still without a seat for the 2021 season. Something that also Williams has picked up. The team would be interested in the services of the Mexican, but that means that George Russell or Nicholas Latifi will have to make way.
Because Latifi brings a lot of sponsor money to the team from Grove, it will be tense times for Russell. According to the Italian branch of Motorsport.com, Nikita Mazepin started looking at the options in Formula 1 at the end of September. There is a chance that Mazepin will leave for Haas, with which Perez would almost have an agreement.
Plan B
That deal may not go through, so Perez has to focus on his plan B. And his plan B is a seat at Williams. Russell is under contract there for next year, but because the team is changing owners, this owner can evaluate the old contracts and possibly put Russell aside.
It seemed like a dream scenario for Russell. One more year of experience at Williams and then make the switch to the big Mercedes, where he would drive next to Lewis Hamilton. But that future for the young Brit is anything but certain now.
