After the Eifel Grand Prix at the Nurburgring, Charles Leclerc indicated that Ferrari are having problems caused by using larger amounts of fuel. Of course, the extra weight affects the speed of the car, but Ferrari seems to suffer even more. At Racing Point, however, they don't understand any of this.

Ferrari's speed fluctuations

Leclerc performed well during the qualifying sessions of the last couple of race weekends, only to fall back during the race. Andrew Green, technical chief of the Racing Point team said he was surprised by this in an interview with Motorsportweek.com.

"Other teams seem to be finding speed on Saturday afternoon that we don't have. We need to look into this", said Green.

"Ferrari is a good example of this. I don't know where they get their speed from on Saturday afternoon, but on Sunday they are half a second behind us. I think that's strange. It's definitely something we need to look at. On Saturday everything is closer together anyway, but we seem to do better on Sunday".

According to Green, the capricious Pirelli tires also have an impact on this, but it's not the only thing.

"It's about the way you use the tires. That's what we focus on: getting the best out of the tyres on Sunday, rather than doing everything we can to get a good result on Saturday. If the balance is not right on Saturday, let's not sacrifice our Sunday by spending too much time on this. Other teams probably do the same, but it looks like we're missing something else on Sunday. We need to look into that", Green concludes.
