This weekend, Formula 1 will go to Portimao for the first time to ride the Portuguese Grand Prix at Autódromo do Algarve. The drivers will use a single DRS zone this weekend. This is different from most circuits, where two DRS zones will be used.

Also in Mugello the drivers were allowed to open the DRS in one place and this weekend it will be the same. On the straight at the pit lane the drivers will be allowed to open the DRS to overtake. It is striking that in Mugello there is no other possibility at all for a DRS zone, but in Portimao the F1 did have the chance to add a second zone.

Single zone at start-finish

Towards the hairpin bend in turn five, the FIA could also choose to add an extra zone. However, they did not do so, so the drivers can only open the rear wing on the straight for extra speed. The measurement point for the DRS is between turn fourteen and fifteen and in the end the drivers can use fifteen DRS after turn fifteen.
