Perez says he is innocent: 'gave Verstappen enough space'
Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen hit each other in the first lap during the Portuguese Grand Prix and Perez came off the worst. Verstappen blames Perez, but Perez indicates that he did nothing wrong.
"It was a chaotic first lap and I could see the Mercedes struggling in the warm-up lap. I knew there would be some opportunity for me. I saw an opportunity and gave Max enough space. However, it was very difficult in that first lap. Everyone had problems with the tyres. We hit each other very late in the corner, but I haven't seen the replay yet," said Perez at Sky Sports.
Perez not yet sure of 2021 seat
The Mexican did, however, still do well to drive to seventh place. Sky Sports immediately indicated that this should help him in his contract negotiations with Williams or even Red Bull Racing. Perez did not want to say anything about it himself.
"The decision is getting closer, as we are now in the final stages. However, the focus for me is on the next race. I don't see the point in saying anything about the negotiations now. It is fair for all parties to give everything behind the scenes," the Racing Point driver concludes.
