Max Verstappen had hoped for more in qualifying for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. He qualified in third place, but he thinks that might be the dirty side of the track.

Not a good reference

Verstappen had an electrical problem during Q2. “Fortunately, the technicians were able to fix it quickly. But that did break qualifying. Then you drive a few laps and you only have to go out on the medium for one lap. You have not had a good reference from Q1 and then you are a bit behind the facts," says Verstappen in conversation with Ziggo Sport.

“Even Q3 in the first run I was a bit off with cold tyres and understeer. So the second run I went out last, then you can at least drive that out-lap as you want. It was slightly better, but I still didn't feel like I was on the limit in Q3. I hoped to be a little closer and to make it a bit more exciting, but that didn't work out," the Red Bull Racing driver continues.

Solve problems immediately

Verstappen came in against the will of his team when he was experiencing problems with his RB16. "Then you can keep driving, but I'd rather come in to see what it is," the Dutchman explains.

“I think it's a bit strange where we have to start to be honest. On the left, but the bend kinks directly to the right. So I don't know if it is okay to start third. We'll see you tomorrow. I don't really care, just hit the gas and hopefully get back on the podium," Verstappen concludes.
