Hamilton's words: Tactical move, or does he really want to stop?
- GPblog.com
Lewis Hamilton made a striking statement after the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. The Brit said that he 'does not know if he will still be there next year'. Is he going to retire?
"I do not know if I will be there next year, there is no guarantee that I will still be racing in F1, even if I want to," were the words of Hamilton at the press conference. Hamilton is about to win its seventh world title, but indicates that this could be its last.
Two interpretations
Hamilton has been waiting a long time for his contract with Mercedes to be extended and, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, these words can have two meanings: either Hamilton says it, but will sign anyway. Or he means it and is really considering quitting Formula 1. He said that there are several things that arouse his interest outside F1.
It could be a Hamilton tactic. The Brit also hesitates to continue because of the fact that team boss Toto Wolff is probably taking a step back within Mercedes. Until Hamilton makes a concrete statement, it remains a guess. But this time Hamilton really seems to be considering putting an end to his Formula 1 career.
