Ralf Schumacher is happy that his nephew Mick Schumacher will probably get the chance in Formula 1, but he has doubts about the choice of the second driver in Haas F1. Nikita Mazepin is mentioned as the driver to partner Schumacher.

It seems a matter of time before Mick Schumacher is announced as the new Haas driver. Michael Schumacher's son is part of Ferrari's academy and seems ready for a place in Formula 1. The road to Haas is open now that Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen have been thanked for their services. Ralf Schumacher is happy for his nephew:

"Everything that is Formula 1 is really good for Mick. The situation at Haas has changed a bit, there were sales thoughts. I can well imagine that Ferrari and Haas will now come closer together, because Ferrari has invested so much in Mick - also financially, plus of course the emotional bond. You try to give the team the best possible technical support. Hopefully the engine will fit, then it can also be a surprise," he tells Autobild.

No second newcomer

Haas will change tack next year and most likely choose two newcomers. Next to Schumacher, possibly Mazepin will get a spot. Ralf Schumacher does not think it is wise to work with two rookies: "I think that is a huge task in today's Formula 1, because it has become extremely technical."

Ralf Schumacher, who himself won six Grands Prix, prefers to see someone else driving next to his nephew: "Sergio Perez or Niko Hülkenberg, are drivers who have a lot more experience in Formula 1. That would be desirable. Of course, you could say: let the two rookies drive as long as they have the speed. But it will be very difficult, because Formula 1 is much more than just speed," concludes Schumacher.
