Verstappen tops ridiculously slippery FP3 in Turkey!
Max Verstappen topped a rain affected FP3 session on a ridiculously slippery Istanbul Park as every driver struggled for grip in the wet conditions. Verstappen has been the stand-out driver this weekend, getting to grips with the horribly tricky surface better than his rivals.
As the rain fell, drivers and teams opted to stay in the garage rather than risk a track just a few hours before qualifying.
Charles Leclerc continued his good form this weekend, finishing the session second, ahead of the other Red Bull of Alex Albon.
On a ridiculously slippery track, drivers first went onto the damp track on intermediate tyres. Soon after the start of the sessions, several drivers spun, including Sergio Perez, Lando Norris, Leclerc and Daniil Kvyat (twice).
With half an hour to go, the rain starting getting heavier and Carlos Sainz had a big moment, sliding over the grass before everyone returned to the pits, leaving an eerily quiet track.
In the last minutes of the session, Alpha Tauri and Alfa Romeo sent their drivers out and Antonio Giovinazzi showed just how tough the conditions are, spinning twice, including one at very slow speed.
Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas left the garage with a couple of minutes to go, with the championship leader describing the conditions as "shocking" and returned to the pits after just a single lap. Hamilton finished the session in last place, having not set a representative time.
Ocon was fourth fastest, ahead of Norris, Perez, and Bottas. Kevin Magnussen and Lance Stroll rounded out the top ten in a session that tells us literally nothing about the cars and track.
