Pierre Gasly sees many similarities between next week's Sakhir GP and the Indianapolis 500. The driver of AlphaTauri expects the race around the unique circuit to be a "slipstream party".

The GP of Sakhir will be held on the outer ring of the circuit in Bahrain. So after we race in Bahrain this weekend, the Formula 1 circus does not have to go to another country. The circuit is an 'oval': a track with many straights and few corners. According to some of the teams' simulations, it will be an ultra-short lap. The simulations resulted in a lap time of less than a minute.

Gasly ready for "spectacular" race

Gasly is curious as to how the race weekend on the oval in Bahrain will go. "The circuit in Bahrain itself - I mean the version we raced before - has a few straights that will help us to overtake. In addition, the track is quite wide. The second race there on the new layout will be completely different. There are only four corners, so it will be a game of who can slipstream best. It's like a mini F1 version of the Indianapolis 500," said the Frenchman to MotorsportWeek.

"I've done some laps on the simulator and the lap times are under the minute. So dealing with the traffic will be very difficult. During qualifying we'll do what's good for the team, so help your team mate with a tow. I think the race is going to be very spectacular with a lot of overtaking," Gasly said.
