After Pole in Turkey, Stroll is hit by communication error in Bahrain
- GPblog.com
Lance Stroll impressed a fortnight ago by taking the pole in front of Max Verstappen under very difficult circumstances in Turkey. In Bahrain he has to make do with P13. However, that was not entirely his own fault.
Stroll was already audibly dissatisfied with his team over the onboard radio and after qualifying explains to The Race.com and others what went wrong. “I think there was a miscommunication on timing. I thought we had time for two runs, so we only had time for one run and I was on an old set of mediums because we used one in Q1 and we did a lap before the red flag in Q2 and then we went back on that same set."
On old set of tyres, he didn't have a chance
Stroll drove on the same set of tyres he had used in Q1. This is sometimes done to save on tyres and at least set a lap time, but to be truly competitive, drivers simply need a brand new set of tyres.
Racing Point would therefore have misinformed him about the time still available for a tyre change. "The others were on a new set. There was no chance of getting close. Unfortunately that was a bad call." the young Canadian said.
